i found the main relationship problematic. Being angry and arguing with someone is not a sign if care. Holding tight enough to bruise and moving someone against their will is not a sign of care.Just beware of these things before diving in, especially if you have watched the series. I was expecting a cinnamon roll as the love interest and instead I got a spoiled child with anger issues.

This is the only Bridgerton book I’ve ever read but I’ve watched the show, so know that this review is from someone of that perspective.

I latched onto Penelope and Colin because I’m a sucker for friends to lovers, but there was something so unfulfilling about their story. I’ll admit I’ve read enough FF to know most of the plot points of the book, but the FF was more satisfying than canon which is never something I like saying. I don’t know how Penelope and Colin were characterized in previous books but Colin especially was so irritating to me in the books. I hated the way he perceived Penelope in the beginning. There was definitely a fine line to walk when Quinn was trying to show that Colin didn’t view Penelope as a romantic prospect but also have her be his friend. Him being like “there are all these amazing girls and penelope is just penelope” did NOT make me ship them!! There was just better more sensitive ways to say it. I don’t know. And I thought the trajectory of their relationship didn’t fit quite right for me. I didn’t believe that it could happen the way it did. I wish it were a slower burn but I realize that this book is the only one I’ve read so I don’t know!! Maybe it would have felt more like a slow burn if I’d read the other books.

I’m not sure. There was just something off that I couldn’t make sense of which is so sad because as I was saying I love them in the show. It be what it be though.

A Bridgerton book I actually really liked? I’m as shocked as anyone else. After the mess that was Benedict’s book, I was going to drop this entire series but then I remembered how much I was interested in Colin and Penelope’s story beginning in the previous book. There is just to warn you a LOT of fatphobia which was quite uncomfortable to read as a fat woman in our fat-people-hating society. However I also thought there was some good parts with how Quinn dealt with Penelope learning to love and appreciate herself even if it was through Colin’s eyes/love. Overall, I thought this one was adorable. I actually really liked Colin and I completely understood his motives and actions unlike some of the other Bridgerton brothers featured. I loved the theme of them both being writers and bonding on that. It felt like this was the first couple in the series that actually had things in common to talk about to each other everyday. I also thought it was a pretty accurate representation of an emotional abusive mother/daughter relationship. At one Penelope basically says that “she loves her mother but didn’t always like her” and whew boy do I get that.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the second epilogue, it felt like much of Eloise’s story than Colin/Penelope’s.

I wanted to read this book because of the Netflix show that has hit last Christmas and now that Netflix has announced that it's been renewed for three more seasons, I want to get ahead and know what is going to happen so of course I brought all nine books. I enjoyed the first two books in the series (Kanthony still one of my favourite couples ever). I really struggled with Benedict’s book and hoped that Colin and Penelope would bring it back for me. Overall, this book is okay, I was a little disappointed considering the first two were brilliant, but I was better than the third one and Lady Danbury saved this book.

This novel follows the main two characters. The first character is Colin Bridgerton. He is the third born in the Bridgerton household. Everyone knows that he is the most charming man in London. However, Colin is tired of being thought nothing but a charmer, tired of everyone’s preoccupation with the notorious gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him in the first paragraph. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same – especially Penelope Featherington! The girl is haunting his dreams. But when he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own., this elusive bachelor must decide if she is his biggest threat or his promise at a happy ending. The second character is Penelope Featherington and she has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for . . .as long as she can remember. After half a lifetime watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret and fears she doesn’t know him at all. This book is set in London in 1824. It is a Regency Adult Romance.

My favourite bit of this book was Julia Quinn’s writing style. It didn’t feel like I was back in time. I mean, obviously they weren’t going on about Snapchat, but it just felt like it was a modern story. The only thing that kept me from remembering that it was set in 1814 was the referring to letters and horses and carriages. Also, I would like to have a Lady Danbury in my life, that woman saved this book. I struggled to get into this book as it wasn’t like the last few books, where there is a mystery and a person to find and Lady Danbury knowing everything and having a mama bear instinctive saved this book. The only thing I would say is a weakness is the point of view changing halfway through a chapter, it got confusing sometimes when you were reading how about beautiful and gorgeous Penelope was and then it switched to Penelope being like “Why is Colin staring at me.” I had to sort of read it back a few times to get back into the storyline. Also, I am so disappointed that we didn’t get Eloise’s reaction to the last chapters and hopefully it will be in her book. I am looking forward to the next book and interested to see the other stories from the Bridgerton family.
