A wonderfully told story about the Civil War. This novel get me into reading with I was in my teens, so it holds a special place in my heart. In case you were wondering, don't bother with his son's books unless there is one war you are interesting in.

Very helpful to supplement learning about the history of the U.S. Civil War with this book, as the dramatizations help characters like Jubal Early, Joshua Chamberlain, George Pickett etc. stick in your mind.
