Shaara sure has a gift for words. His portrayals of these generals and soldiers are so believable. He captures the human spirit beautifully.

This is a fictional story about the real Battle of Gettysburg and how it all played out. I read this pretty slowly because I wanted to be able to research as things were happening so that I could make sure I was fully comprehending the story. Not that this requires you to go check everything along the way, because its written so well that you can picture everything perfectly in your head. I don't have much to say expect that I think this is a remarkable read and really gives you insight into the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. It also gives me chills knowing that this could have been a turning point in the war for either side. Thank gosh Lee was stubborn and the Union won out. If you're an American history buff, this is a must-read.
