This has to go on my quasi-fiction shelf. There's a lot of non-fiction in it, but none of it is cited. The characters are all there, their fate is determined, and the rest Shaara comes up with. In that light, the whole thing is rather like fan-fiction.
This was a very gripping book, but I think I would have liked it more if it was straight up non-fiction and told as historical accounts. I groaned a bit with some of the dialogue, but the descriptions were fabulous.
Awesome-I loved it and I often find historical fiction to drag in places where my knowledge base is lacking, but I found myself caring for the characters throughout the book.
This was possibly the driest book I've ever read, but I guess since I am not a history fanatic, I wouldn't like it even if there were dozens of interesting things going on. I'm sure for historians this is a great book,but i personally, wanted to drink bleach while reading this.
