Pretty cute. Love the picture of mom in her onesie jammies!
Did you notice: the knitting needles and yarn? the one lime green octopus found on many pages inside the house? The Totorro figurine? the illustration of Big Jeffy?

I absolutely love the artwork in this book. The pictures are so amazing. Levi Pinfold has portrayed fear and facing fears/worries in such a brilliant way.

Love the fearlessness in Small Hope, love the big black dog that snuffles, love the just perfect illustration for a story such as this.

Visually, there is a lot to look at. Little hidden gems to search for and discuss (I particularly liked the green octopus who can be found on most of the pages set inside the house), including some nods to modern children: toys included AdventureTime, Totoro, Lego etc. The lone Jaffa cake on a pile of papers and the Battenberg left on a plate on the floor mixed in with drawings on cupboards and toys all over the place gave the book a very lived-in family feel, while the over the top reactions from the adults made it definitely feel like a humorous children’s book.

Read 15 picture books today and this was the clear favorite. Might have to ponder it more and then add review.

I had this on my Wish it Was Caldecott Eligible shelf, so I was very happy to hear it won a Greenaway Medal in Great Britian!
