Reflective and interesting read. I did struggle through it a little at times though, as it is somewhat slow paced. I learnt lots about trees and as always for this author, the writing was beautiful.

Roots (first part) was exceptional; the rest of the book was interesting, but I struggled to finish. I almost wish the author continued with the short story format throughout the entire novel.

i have no words

edit: i do have a few words for all the reviews that complain of tedium or lack of a moral—you missed the point try again

This is the kind of book you’ll need a pen and a notebook to keep track of. Mostly because it’s split between the perspectives of different characters and those characters are not clearly defined chapter by chapter as the narrator. In fact, the book isn’t split into chapters at all, rather 4 parts.

The true narrator or main character is probably trees themselves? The story was biblical, with so many allusions that could basically display it as if Mother Earth wrote the Bible. It was wonderful but challenging. Very thoughtful, though it will definitely take a reread in the future to truly understand it.
