I was thinking of deleting a star for this book but after thinking it over I realised the problem was mine and not the books. The story telling and the world created deserve the full 5 stars.
.
While reading this one my emotions were put through the wringer. The cruelty, be it intentional or simply in ignorance really tore at me.
Brute is the kinda guy that if you just took the time to talk to him you would see he is a wonderful human being. Sadly, as in too many cases, his size and looks stopped people from even trying.
Gray was a puzzle at first. His punishment had me fearing he was an evil awful man. But no in truth he was simply a naïve and foolish young boy who paid a much higher price than he deserved.
Prince Friddy, despite his change at the end left me feeling disappointed and rather glad he was a few brothers away from the crown. He was weak and selfish in my eyes, not the kind of man you would want ruling your kingdom. For me he’s suddenly standing up to his father was just too little too late.
This was a fairy tale, set in a fairytale land, and this is where my problem came in. I wanted a fairytale PERFECT ending, instead I got a fairytale ending. Yes it’s a HEA but its not the perfect HEA I wanted. After going through so much hurt, seeing so much suffering and pain, shedding enough tears my eyes were sore, I wanted that perfect fix. I wanted all the wrong doings amended, and it’s a fairytale so why couldn’t I have my complete fairytale turn back time kinda fantasy ending???
My issues aside this was a beautifully crafted tale, the author deserves much credit for creating a wonderful world.
ETA Still a wonderful read, but I still wish they had been totally healed :P

This book was pure self-indulgence for me - I love a lonely, mistreated, and misunderstood character like Brute/Aric who remains relentlessly just and kind. The relationship between him and Gray was very sweet.
Loved this story so much. A loving giant with a big heart and other parts. Enjoyed it
That was a nice enough story. The initial characterization of Brute a was a bit too reminiscent of a mentally disabled person for my liking. Like having to "proof" how stupid Brute is only for him to have his arc to disprove it. It was still okay though. His time at the palace was nice. The start of the romance between him an Gray a bit strange, especially considering the dynamics. I just didn't really feel the spark between the two, I kept waiting for them to be completed by Prince Alfred or something. The rescue of Gray seemed way too easy, as did the resolution of the story.
Aric has such a huge heart and is always willing to help others. It was sad to see how he was being mistreated and how he didn't think he was smart. I liked the relationship development between him and Gray.
