TJ Klune does it again. Took me a wee bit to get into it, agree with some Reddit reviews regarding showing versus telling us about the characters, and the hate on vegan food felt a bit cliche which was briefly distracting. But overall, it eventually captivated me, I loved the novelty of the story, I relished the characters and their intimate connections with each other, and I found myself enthralled with a TJ Klune story as per usual!

So different from other TJ Klune books I’ve read, and yet still so similar. I loved how this switched back and forth from heartwarming and silly to tense and creepy so seamlessly. I found that some of the diction was hard to follow, and I wished that Nate had more to him than “umm….okay??”

I feel like I definitely liked the book but I don't know that I liked it as much as I normally enjoy Klunes books.
The bones beneath my skin hits the "found family" trope that Klune does really well.
Nate Cartwright, who has just lost his family and his job and returns to his family summer cabin to find an ex-marine and a ten year old there- a very strange ten year old named Artemis Darth Vader.
While Art is weird as hell, she's also special and Nate needs to decide if he's in or he's out.
I really enjoyed the easily dialogue, various types of humour (particularly with how Artemis Darth Vader interpreted the world around her, and a slightly spicy LGBTQ love story.
The pace felt pretty good for how long the book was, and I kept wanting to read one more chapter to see what happened next.
