Definitely not the best TJ Klune book. It reads as if ET, Stranger Things, Heaven's Gate (yikes?), and The Last of Us were all chopped together. I loved House in the Cerulean Sea for its characterization of kids, but just a few years prior, Klune had a long way to go. It's hard to believe the found family love story when the kid, Art, is just the embodiment of the "kids say the darnest things" trope. And was the romance believable? I'm not personally convinced, but that might be a me problem.

Loved the first half. Didn't love the 3rd quarter. Liked the 4th quarter.

TJ Klune is just so good at writing found family.

Didn't think a book could be wholesome and action packed, but that's exactly what this was.

TJ Klune never disappoints. I couldn’t put this book down, I basically read all of it in a day. For some reason I was thrown off when I first started it, I think the age gap between the lovers was just strange at first (in terms of personal preferences i mean. you do you boo) or the vibes just seemed different from Cerulean Sea/Puppets/Whispering Door for some reason? As I read the rest of it (today) I realized it’s no different, still made me giggle out loud at a coffee shop and in my own house, still grabbed at my heartstrings with serious topics, and a beautiful display of queer romance that isn’t even the center of the plot, how I like it best. I just adore these books Klune writes, and I am already excited for whatever he does next. I will always recommend his books to everyone, even adults, as they’re lighthearted and silly yet very touching and emotional. #StanTJKlune
