A beautifully lyrical novel, showcasing the somewhat sad, restricted and externally dictated life of Lucrezia. A girl who is engaged, at age 13, to Alfonso, the duke of Ferrara.

Overall: a slow meandering novel, full of sadness, desperation for freedom, and resignation. I love the way Maggie O’Farrell conveys her characters, and the descriptive way she writes. I really ended up enjoying this read (much more so than I first thought i would).

Heartbreaking Maggie O'Farrell again, drawing on history and making me so glad I'm not a early teen bride being killed by my husband with tacit support from my family

Wowzers! This book is incredible! I loved it from beginning to end, especially the ending...thanks for that, BTW. There's so little information about Lucrezia de' Medici but Maggie O'Farrell weaves magic and brings her story to life.

I knew that I’d enjoy this, but I didn’t think that I’d find it more intriguing than O’Farrell’s “Hamnet”! I really enjoy all stories about women’s lives throughout history and this was no exception! I found it a bit dragging sometimes though, and I really don’t enjoy time jumps unfortunately. Still a really solid read!

Far too slow, I ended up skipping 100 pages and still new exactly what was going on.

At moments absolutely heartbreaking. Cried a lot towards the end. Loved the way Lucrezia’s point of view is written. The way she sees the world is beautiful.
