I received this book for free from Silver Dagger Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Eight Minutes And Thirty-Two Seconds is the time the last two surviving humans spend dead and live in a populated world again. And again. And again. As the time between deaths gets shorter with each death, can they figure out how the world ended? Does it matter anymore?

From the author of the amazing Henry Franks, one of the first books I reviewed, comes another 5 star book with excerpt & giveaway below.

IMHO: Eight Minutes and Thirty-Two Seconds

WOW that was gripping from the get. I won’t be forgetting this any time soon.

Of course, EVERYTHING being a mystery leaves little room to speak on it. What I can say spoiler free:

  • Addicts withdrawing, medical emergencies, bullying, abuse, implied rape,

  • Only saw one thing coming in the very beginning but with the clues/foreshadowing I’m sure it’s on purpose & didn’t negatively affect my experience.

  • Everything else was a thrill-ride guessing game.

  • I wasn’t surprised about who ended the world, but L & M certainly were given the circumstances. Can hardly blame them.

  • Atmospheric. So desolate and lonely...

  • That damn AI.

  • I do wish one girl meet a different end, it’s so trope-y to use her that way. That is the only negative.

Amazing stylized for the Layaway dragon theme.

Easily & HIGHLY recommendable for teens & adults alike. For mystery & sci-fi fans. I've been racking my brain for comp titles, but coming up blank. It's like ???? amazing, okay!!

I am a big YA fan. This book had a lot of potential. The premise was great. Execution not so much. What frustrates me about this book is I never gain any connection to the characters. There is no development. There's no surprise. You want more you just never get it.

First of all: "This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review."

It's hard to come up with a completely novel approach to the end of the world. But that is exactly what the author has done with Eight Minutes, Thirty-Two Seconds. The story takes place after an apocalypse has occurred, and through flashbacks we try to learn how it was that it happened. The plot is very intriguing, and the author pulls it off nicely.

The narrator of the audiobook does a good job of intensifying the intense situations, and though not perfect, mostly adds to the story without detracting from it.

Overall a very interesting read which I would highly recommend.

What starts out as a very stream-of consciousness style slowly pieces together as the story progresses. You get snippets of details as each person explores memories. You get insight, piece by piece, into what happened that led to this bizarre state of existence. You start to understand the mistakes, the terrible decisions, the consequences of being so very intelligent and untouchable.

After reading this book, I've started to keep an eye out for any of Peter's other work because I binged this in two days. Yes, it's a novella so it's shorter than a novel, but the sun had gone down and I was sitting in the dark reading on my phone because I just couldn't put it down and hadn't noticed it was nighttime. I don't usually do that, I can disconnect and pull away, but this book sucked me in entirely. Maybe it's because it taps into psychology and cognitive science, two fields that I adore and almost went into in college. Maybe it's because it explores teen abuse and neglect from highly intelligent individuals, something I haven't seen much in YA fiction. Either way, I devoured this book.

This book is an intense, terrifying foray into a dark future where two survivors must piece together the end of the world through the jumbled memories of six abused teens. A wonderful read that I couldn't put down by a writer who understands the biological, technological, and research worlds, this is one science fiction thrill ride you won't want to miss! If you enjoy exploring cognitive science, AI technology, biological weapons, and a mystery of global proportions, this is definitely the book for you!

Eight Minutes, Thirty-Two Seconds is a strange story that has a slight Flatliners vibe.
It's a post-apocalyptic-esque sci-fi story about a virus that wipes out the entire planet...save for two people. Unfortunately for those two people, L and M, they don't know anything. They don't know their names, what happened, where they are, or why they're able to die and come back after eight minutes and thirty two seconds.
I found this story to be a bit odd. At first, it was a little confusing and hard to get into, but once it got going, I found it hard to put down. I was invested in what was going on with L and M, and I was curious to know if they would uncover the truth about everything.
Even though I struggled a bit at first, this book definitely intrigued me and kept me on my toes. Slowly piecing things together along with L and M was a fascinating experience.
The one thing that amused me most was the names of the characters. There was David, Yasmeen, Levi, Amy, Stephanie, and Billy. The only reason I found it amusing is because my name is Jasmine (similar to Yasmeen), my husband's name is David, my older son's name is Levi, and my best friend from preschool-high school was named Stephanie.
If you enjoy YA sci-fi, post-apocalyptic books, and books with mysteries that need solving, you'll want to grab a copy of Eight Minutes, Thirty-Two Seconds today.
4 stars from me.
