3.5, a mostly enjoyable read about sibling dynamics and a protagonist who is lost but figuring it out, but the use of the word "snookums" toward the end of the story really sent me

This was a great light read. After reading so many critical reviews I wasn't expecting much from the book, but it felt like I was listening to a friend tell a story. I read before bed and most books put me to sleep within 5-10 minutes, but not this one. I don't know what it was about the writing, but it kept me going. Yes, there were some annoying aspects to the story (like how Natalie kept saying it was her fault her siblings went to prison) and it felt a little drawn out in some areas, but I was rooting for a happy ending for Natalie.

I liked this book a lot. The story was really good and I like how it ended. But it just didn’t do enough for me.

A sweet little summer romantic read! The author does a great job at lighting up a difficult subject of regret and death. The main character Natalie is funny and relatable along with her cat pengiun who lends a little light hearted humor to the overall darkness of the book.

I do think that the ending tied out a little too nicely into a bow for me. Everyone forgave everyone and life just worked out. A happy ending with such an awful start. I wish that maybe the visit with Buck was longer or perhaps the reuniting with Jake was more in depth but it also didn't need to be for me to enjoy the story.

The relationship between Natalie and the other marine biologist was a long cat and mouse game. Very little spice until the end and even then it was PG and sweet.

Definitely felt like more of a summer read to me. Had a little romance mixed with some family drama.
