Brilliant characters, very interesting storytelling and narrative. Provides an insider's view and critique of the "writing community" and publishing industry, while exploring critiques of the author herself and her previous works. Manages to include specific Twitter drama (and predict, because these arguments are ongoing) that seems dramatized but is 100% real.

thoroughly enjoyable and had me laughing out light. it’s a fun and unique way for the author to make a criticism of the publishing industry.

Yellowface was a fascinating look into the inner workings of the publishing industry through the eyes of a white woman who feels like she’s being overlooked in the age of diversity.

As a white woman who at one point hoped to make it as a published author, this book gave me so much anxiety. I fully understand what Kuang was trying to do with the book, but it was difficult to read, even though it felt like the story flew by.

In the end, I was left feeling… kind of lost. I feel like the premise—racist white lady tries to take credit for her deceased Asian friend’s writing—forced the book into a box when it could’ve been more complex.

Overall: worth the read, but it could have gone further in its critique of the publishing industry and racism within the book world in particular.

Probably one of the most stressful books I've read, but compelling, like watching a train crash in slow motion. Going in blind I was even more caught of guard by the shamelessness of the characters, including the protagonist.  I was impressed with the amount of breadth that the author covered Asian-American online discourse.

I listened to the audiobook version and gradually increased the speed throughout my time with the book, and it added to the frantic monologue of the narrator to great effect. I honestly wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, but if any of this sounds like it's for you, go for it

This is a narrative about personal jealousy, racism in publishing and interrogating race politics
