Loved. Loved. Loved it. Jojo has definitely become one of my favorite authors.
Perhaps my expectations for this book were way too high, given how much I emotionally connected with Me Before You. This one, well, it was one of those books that you like enough to stick with it, but you just want to get through it so you can be done with it and move on to something else that will hopefully hold more interest. In fact, I started this book, set it aside and read a different book, then finished this one just so I could "count it" as done. It was... fine. The quirky characters and road-trip plot reminded me too much of the movie 'Little Miss Sunshine,' and I found it hard to shake my annoyance that it was so unoriginal. A few emotional punches at the very, very end made reading this worthwhile for me, but it definitely fell way below my hopes for Jojo Moyes.
i enjoyed this a lot more than i thought i would—especially for it being almost 500 pages long—but i thought this was really sweet.

Fördelen med Feel-good är att man i stort sett alltid vet slutet på det man läser. Det kan i och för sig bli tråkigt, men många gånger kommer jag på mig själv ändå med att tänka: ”tänk om det inte slutar lyckligt”, vilken chock det vore! Feel-good som genre är lite som amerikanska filmer, det får inte sluta oväntat eller ledsamt. Nackdelen med feel-good är att man vet vad man får och det blir inte så oväntat.
Istället handlar det om resan dit. Lite som de här etthundra milen som Ed, Jess och barnen gör. Den här boken börjar trögt för mig och jag var faktiskt i valet och kvalet att lägga bort den helt när det började komma upp mot 70 sidor och det bara kändes som det tragglades på kring ingenting. Men så vände det, och jag läste 320 sidor på en dag och var väldigt förtjust. Tydligen är det här med väldigt långsamma inledningar där man ska lära känna alla ingenting för mig.
Jag tycker att det här är en annorlunda bok i sättet den är skriven på. Dessutom tycker jag att det är uppfriskande med Jess, som är optimist in i ryggmärgen fastän livet inte är särskilt snällt mot henne och dessutom är kapabel att göra väldigt mycket själv. Hon bygger, hon syr, hon är allt liksom och vill inte ta hjälp av någon.
Feel-good är som en varm filt att ta till när man är lite ”under the weather” och behöver något som är lättsamt men som ändå är lite upplyftande. Det blir ju alltid så. Någon vill förbättra sitt liv, det kommer hinder i vägen men det blir bättre i slutändan, på något sätt.
Kanske den här boken skulle ha haft ett högre betyg, men den väldigt långsamma starten drar ner det för mig och det blir ”bara” 3,5.

Okay, I loved this book. For whatever reason, I couldn't put it down! I cared about Jess and her kids, and it was interesting to me that a story so realistic and unexaggerated could be so interesting. The only other Moyes book I have read was Me Before You and it seemed a little less real (who would find themselves in that situation? even though it was awesome), but this one seemed like a real story that happens probably too many times.
Jess was a fascinating character who did a great job sticking through the hard times. I just wanted the poor girl to catch a break! It was great to see the story evolve where she felt entirely broken by the end, but Nicky was strong enough at that point to help her out. Their relationship was awesome.
I liked that the romance wasn't a huge part of the book. It almost seemed like a side plot that just happened to occur. I liked how much Ed was humanized throughout the book. Hardships really do seem to make us better, more compassionate people after going through them. We saw that most in Ed, but also from Jess, Nicky and Tanzie. Tanzie is the cutest ever.
