I laughed out loud so many times reading this book! If you have a friend concerned about the future AI takeover, you can give this book to them and reassure them that the AI we have now is not as sci fi smart as people think they are. The best part of this novel is how the author anthropomorphizes the AI, essentially making it look cute and silly while also breaking down complex concepts in computer science into simple language. The adorable hand drawn comics depicting the AI struggling to understand the world are also very charming. Janelle writes about her topic with humour and grace, showing us a realistic peek behind what makes AI run and the dangers of oversimplifying it or relying on it to make big decisions. I would definitely recommend this book to any reader because for a person who does not usually read non-fiction scientific books, this book captured my attention for 2 days and was so enjoyable. I could not get enough of the running jokes, unbelievably silly and funny antics of malfunctioning AI and the bizarre AI art. Look out for those cockroaches btw!
Amazing book that gives a wonderful introduction into AI. Recommend to everyone because algorithms are everywhere and it is useful to know how they work.
Honestly, this was a great book and probably deserved a higher rating. I just read it at the wrong time. Since lockdown started, I've had a bit of trouble focusing on non-fiction (as opposed to fiction, which hasn't been a problem for me). I think because I'm having to reinvent and relearn all kinds of daily tasks or routines all the time, though I don't know for sure. Anyway, I liked this book, but read it in fits and starts with a lot of problems focusing on it, even though it's written in a very accessible, down-to-Earth, entertaining way.

Interesting and funny overview of AI, accessible to laypeople but still fun to read as a programmer myself.
Funny and informative. You won't come away from this thinking that AI is going to take over the world. Instead, you'll get a better idea of how AI works and you'll be amused doing so.
