I had a hard time with the pacing of this book. Plus I didn’t love the character dynamics as much as I did in the first book.
slightly confused at how we seem to have lost sight of the bigger picture of the entire radch and are safely settled in one random system, but i can't deny how FUN the system/spaceship/planetary politics are, so compelling.. but above all the best part was kalr five's obsession with dishware
I think I enjoyed this even more than the first one.
"'Tell me... can you say, in verse, how God is like a duck?'"
...
"'There once was a duck who was God,' said Basnaaid. 'Who said, it's exceedingly odd. I fly when I wish and I swim like a fish...'"
...and quite frankly, this book left me awed.

The plot felt like it only picked up at the end, but the world-building continues to intrigue.
While satisfying, I found it to be too narrow in scope. More house politics than space opera.
Great fun but loses some of the efficiency and polish of the first in the series. Would benefit from tightening up and having a stronger central focus. Still love it though!
