After having read the first book in the series and hearing this was about a war-unicorn, I couldn't resist. It's a short story that you can read in mere minutes but the beauty of it is that it leaves you wanting so much more - and then you have an entire series to get stuck into. As a stand alone, this would suck but as a prequel it works to get you interested.

Also see: war-unicorn.

That was absolutely brilliant. It had everything that made me want to read more about this character. Action, Unicorns (though Zombies are still better), all kinds of magical creatures, comedy and a fight for justice!

Everyone should read this book. :) I loved how they fought to save/liberate magical creatures. And lol, at the Ed part. :)

This is the first time I have read anything by McBride and what drew me to this short story was the unicorn character (Steve aka Phantom).

This is a quirky story about cage fighting amongst mythical animals. Steve's trainer, Lena, is pretty funny too and helps the story to flow nicely.

All in all, a small quirky read, good for passing 20 minutes.

exactly what you'd expect from a Lish McBride cage-fighting unicorn team.

Figured I'd read this free intro to the Necromancer series to get an idea of the author's voice. I liked it enough to read the next prequel and I already have the first of the series on my TBR.

A unicorn and a half-Valkyrie, bringing justice to the world one fight at a time. Well written, fun, and hints of a bigger world.
