This was an emotional roller coaster and I loved every second of it!!!
😍😍😍😍😍
I fell in love with the characters, the story could be a movie itself 😍😍 it had this warm feeling to it, that just makes me feel really happy and fuzzy inside 🌌🦄🌌🦄🌌🦄
I liked how the story felt really natural, as well as the characters and their actions. There are no big and dramatic soap opera scenes, where everything blows up or something. Everything felt really close to real life.
And I love the behind-the-scenes-view we get as readers into Hollywood and film-making. As I am a sucker for interior design, I just ate those passages up when they talked about set design/flea markets/furniture/decorating/lighting etc. and everything else, that is needed to create the magic, that movies sometimes can be.
The story makes me want to fall in love.

This book was so satisfying. I really enjoyed reading about the behind the scenes filmmaking, which I did not expect at all. The love and friendships and family relationships were so refreshing.

Cute lesbians. Enough said.

This is a short review for a short book. It’s a sweet and nice read, definitely recommend.

I read this novel in 4 hours including a full hour in a restaurant parking lot and I want to give it 5 stars but I need to save that rating for books that are truly life changing. That said, one of the best YA LGBT novels I've read in the last few years. Highly recommended.

I love knowing about the behind the scenes of a movie. These parts were so well-written as if it’s from someone in the industry (which makes more sense since Nina LaCour went to sets herself and talked to people in the industry). I just want to say that I love all the details that Emi put into a set, because it’s true that all these little details sums up the character.

Now, although I’m amused by Emi’s talents, I’m just confused as it felt unrealistic. We didn’t get any backstories of how she became so good at it, or how she became interested to it and worked on improving her skills. I wasn’t sure if a fresh high school graduate is capable of designing a set right away by looking at it. I thought, “well maybe nothing is impossible in Hollywood”, but maybe she’s also just privileged.

Despite the mystery touch in the story, everything was predictable. It wouldn’t make you guess, it’s all there. Though this story will be good for those who wants a little mystery but doesn’t want to think about what will happen next.

We started the few chapters seeing how Emi was kind of obssessed with her ex and suddenly, she decided to stop thinking about her and all that. So I was hoping she wouldn’t make a move on Ava right away. She didn’t, but even Ava’s feelings for her, felt forced and rushed. There was just no chemistry. At all. I get that this is LaCour’s first f/f but when Emi complimented Ava’s FEET, i was like... what....

The ending also seem rushed. Everything was happening so quickly.

I have a lot of problems in this than I imagined when I picked it up but I still want to give it 2 stars for the story it gave about family and the sad stuff that can be relatable.

Not quite a 3, but better than a 2.5

I had a few problems with the writing; it was just too simple and the dialogue felt awkward sometimes and there were alot of times when the main character describes things that didn't have any importance.

I also didn't really connect with the main character, Emi. She seemed really naive about her privilege and not mature as she liked to think she was. I really liked Ava at the beginning but sort of felt disconnected from her by the end and Jamal was a character I wished was featured more in the story.

The plot was interesting at first, but Emi's thoughts sort of changed alot; first she's thinking about her job working on movie sets, then to her ex, then to Ava then back to work and it just was all over the place. It was predictable from early on, but I think it was meant to be like that.

Overall, I enjoyed it parts of it, mainly the idea about films and that they make us feel something. Some of the characters seemed flat, or I felt disconnected with them. It did take me a while to read this because sometimes I would enjoy reading it, but I found myself not wanting to pick it up multiple times.
