A book written by a man who fantasized about being a mobster and who got to live his dream by working for trump - a man who behaves like a real-world mob boss. I'll give Cohen credit for one thing, he doesn't defend his actions in executing trump's nefarious enterprises. He presents them and explains them, but never defends them or presents himself as a sympathetic figure.

Some juicy gossip in here but Cohen's decades of toadying and real admiration for Trump is stomach-turning.

I felt a bit dirty for purchasing this book...giving money to this wretched crook made me quite uncomfortable, but I wasn’t willing to wait until I could borrow it. This was a page turner for me—while he didn’t drop any bombshells, the additional detail he provided left me with my mouth agape throughout the book. I continue to be shocked at the depravity of both Trump and Cohen, but the depths this sycophant would sink to for the ‘pat on the head’ by Trump was truly astonishing. I am not naive to know that had Cohen not been charged and put in prison, his behavior would continue and this book would not have been written. This book is nothing more than a money grab for one more soulless sad excuse for a man that was easily tossed aside by Trump. However, reading about the train wreck was incredibly entertaining.

Nothing shocking that hasn’t already been disclosed by multiple articles over the last 3-4 years. I was hoping for some real insider dirt.

Michael Cohen is not an Atticus Finch kind of lawyer. He's more the kind about whom jokes are made, jokes like what you call 1000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean. That said, I found the book interesting and readable. Between reading this and Mary Trump's book, the amount of daddy issues evident in multiple generations of the Trump family is mindboggling. How much of Cohen's account one believes is up to each reader.

This was the third book about Trump I've read this year (the others being Mary Trump's Too Much and Never Enough and David Frum's Trumpocalypse: Restoring American Democracy). I had another book about Trump on hold at the library and cancelled it. I'm done. Glad I live in Canada.

Easy to read, written in a conversational style. Cohen admits to all his failings . . . to a point. He does have some interesting and perceptive details about how Trump operates and how he brings others into his web. The book fails when Cohen leaves out a lot of detail about his dealings with SDNY and the Mueller investigation. Perhaps a bit self-protective about on-going investigations?

The book starts as eye-opening but unsurprising, then drones on as you realize the gossip book about Trump couldn't hold my interest. I needed to focus on something else. Hard to finish.

I did not expect to like Michael Cohen any more than I already did before reading this book (which was very, very, very little). I probably like him even less after reading it. Reading him describe the glee with which he did despicable things for Trump was revolting. I appreciated, however, the further insight into the absolute monster that is Donald Trump. I read this right after reading Bob Woodward’s “Rage”. Clearly, Cohen is *not even close* to Bob Woodward’s caliber as a writer. Cohen’s book does provide more inside baseball because he was in the loathsome inner circle. All in all, a worthwhile read.

Disloyal: A memoir
The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump.
by Michael Cohen
2020

Tough read. I am inclined to believe that Michael Cohen was drawn into a game he did not realize he was playing, until he lost. He was so sure this was going to be his path to the White House, that he did not see the reality, or listen to his wife and children tell him to walk away from Trump. Find something else. Michael Cohen paid the price for not listening to his family, and for his crimes. Trump never will.
Michael Cohen is one of the few that remained loyal and took the fall for Trump. In many ways, he paid for Trumps crimes, and inappropriate demeanor. And he still is.
Mr. Cohen starts by telling us about the Trump Mortgage Co. Then, in the 1990's, Trump Taj Mahal, and his Atlantic City casino, and the Trump Network, that sold vitamins and health products. None were successful, losing more money than they made. Many of the people who worked there went unpaid, but Trump doesn't believe in apologizing or admitting responsibility for failure. He does believe in free labor.
Michael has seen many instances, where Trump would seek out sensitive topics and divisive issues, that he could exploit. He likes to appeal to a base of people with prejudices, because they are easier to win over. This has been the Trump strategy throughout his life. His most sensitive topics are his hair, his numerous bankruptcies and his perceived wealth. His long standing hatred of the Obama's is central to all his decision and his belief that gays and religious people are worthless unless he can get their vote, is how he approaches these topics.
Most interesting to me, was the Stormy Daniels, Hope Hicks and Karen McDougal stories. They really give us an example of the kind of man he is, and of his attitude towards women, in general.
Michael Cohen thinks Trump is shallow, childish and incapable of empathy or of taking responsibility for his own actions, as he never has had to in his life, yet. With many around him to afraid to say anything except "Let Trump be Trump", it reminds us how dictators and authoritarian governments began. I am thankful he is a one and done president.
I commend Michael Cohen for his bravery and honesty. I think working with Trump has changed him, in many ways, as well as how he thinks and sees the world. It has opened his eyes, and he is so fortunate to have a wife and children who always support him, even when they know better.
Recommended.
