4/7. I'm not really sure how to rate this book. I was curious to read it when it came out yet I did not want to buy it, so I put it on hold at the library. When the hold came through, I wasn't sure I was still much interested, but decided to read it anyway. On the one hand it is a fun and entertaining read -- salacious, gossipy, fully of instances of Trump treating people (including his children) badly. Not much was really a surprise. But near the end, it becomes a little whiny, with Cohen proclaiming his innocence and lamenting the unfairness of his treatment. Aside from that, I generally believe the details -- after all, as they say, when you're prosecuting the Devil, you don't have angels as witnesses. The very early part of the book reminded me of the early parts of the movie Goodfellas, and really underscores just how much Trump and his organization operate like a mafia family. All in all, a fast and entertaining read, although nothing earth-shattering.
I didn’t learn anything new about Trump
and his shenanigans from this book. Cohen was a willing participant and knew exactly what he was doing throughout his Trump lackey career. He comes off as a greedy, self-absorbed creep who carelessy put his family through a great deal of pain. Cohen also blames the SDNY for his conviction and fails to show true remorse for his crimes. He is a common crook. Quick read and was entertaining, though.

Save time and just catch the choice bits that are all over the media. Cohen spends significant time scrapping and bowing and wringing his hands over how sore his knees became while licking Trump's ass. No pity should be wasted on this criminal enabler, just as none should be wasted on Trump or his clan of criminals, ever.
I did not expect to like this book at all, but it ended up being a guilty pleasure - a page-turner full of juicy details and interesting insights about Trump. As self-serving as the narrative was at times, the Trump that came through these pages rang very true.
This is a redemption book -a way of Cohen justifying why he did what he did. However, I felt that he rushed through the end and did not provide a detailed account of why he was convicted.
It is a good read if you want a deeper understanding of Cohen-Trump relationship or Trump's way of operating in general.

Didn't learn anything I wasn't already aware of. I watched his interview with Rachel Maddow, ALL of the highlights were there.
He does lay bare a stark picture of Donald Trump, but Mary L. Trump did it better. There are things he knew, of course, that she didn't, but they're all thuggish bits. The book is really self-serving, oh, he does apologize several times, but most of it is about how bad Trump is, how bad (and smart) he is. It wasn't worth the money.
I feel for his wife and kids but this is not a good man, even if he's now discovered morality for most of his life that was utterly lacking, along with compassion and a sense of common decency, let alone patriotism.

A snitch, a weasel, writes a book. He is honest about who he was, and who he is. He understands his own credibility issues. He faces them straight-on. And he tells his truth. It's ugly.
I've read over 20 "Individual-1" books, and this covers new ground in a new way. Cohen's book is surprisingly-well-written. Engaging. Almost suspenseful, even tho we know exactly how this ends.
Cohen is honest about his own venality...his romance with power and glamor. He was a mobster wanna-be. So it's no surprise he and DJT found each other. That Cohen couldn't see the writing on the wall from the very beginning is evidence of his own ability of self-deception. Trump stiffed him on the very first bill he sent...he stayed. He stayed despite his family's revulsion. He stayed despite Trump's cheating and lying. He stayed. And he paid.
Cohen's insights show us an entire business that was and always will be slimy beyond belief.
Then, Cohen became a cautionary tale for Rick Wilson's observation: Everything Trump Touches Dies.
Did Cohen hope to redeem himself? Of course. Did he succeed? Each reader will decide for themselves.
Better than I predicted.

An interesting insight into Trump's world, mind and behaviour. Repetitive at times and some of the information was already well known but overall a good history of the former President.
