Agatha Christie is a big name for a reason, no doubt. Such good pacing and tension and cool characters and the nursery rhyme for a little pizzazz. I was very taken by the intro bit in my copy from Christie’s personal writings that talked about her wanting to make this concept work just because it was difficult and that made it fun. Well it certainly made it fun to read.
This feels like such good old-timey classic mystery. It gives me all the closed-group murder tension, the farcical Clue scenes with a cluster of frightened idiots scrambling from room to room only to find someone or something else missing from where they thought it was, and even the reveal (which can get a bit heavy handed in old mysteries) was at least fashioned in a unique format.
Definitely recommend for anyone wanting to read classic mystery or just classic works in general, especially if you’re overwhelmed about difficult styles/forms/dialects/etc. This book reads as very contemporary.

I started this book expecting a somewhat slower pace, and some degree of predictability given that there have been so many adaptations and stories inspired by it. I said " hm well I am coming in with 2022 knowledge, and of course the *** did it! But I suppose it's still interesting to see how they did it and why."
I was of course very wrong on all counts! I agree with other reviewers that there could have been a bit more information in order to actually have a chance at guessing, but of course it's more fun when you can't guess! I also found it somewhat light as we don't really feel too badly about any of the characters, and the whole thing is quite fantastical. Overall very addictive and perfect for spooky season!

This was fun! I thought the plot was exciting and I didn’t guess who the murderer was. The only thing was I didn’t feel that connected to the story which may have been put to the length of the novel.
Other than that I am glad that I get to read the classics and why they universally loved for a long time.
