From very early on in this book, I knew how it would end. That didn’t prevent my heart from shattering into a million pieces in the process. A simplistically written but beautifully told story of love, interracial relationships, shifting families & companionship, I don’t think this book will ever really leave me.

This book was so powerful and although short it felt very full. also that FORESHADOWING! an amazing story and it’s message still rings and is relatable today more than ever. This book is so so important!

This rating is probably one of the hardest ones to decide on. I keep thinking that the book was too short for it to be worth 5 stars, and that it was too insta-lovey, but I really loved it. The story was beautiful and heartbreaking. The characters were incredible, but I just wish there was more to this book.

A predictable ending

I’m not one for the Romance genre, but Jacqueline Woodson is a good writer, and I liked the fact that she loosely based this off Romeo and Juliet. There is good character development considering the short length of the book, and it is a sad book.
