Interesting!
This was a quick read in the end .. I enjoyed it and it hit a few hard topics.
This was the 20th year edition so I'm assuming it came out in the 90's or so
It was a bit too instalovey for me with not enough substance from Ellie..
Their backstories were intriguing but how they fell in love wasn't build up enough.
It was okay for me ! and the ending was very abrupt.
But the new cover is beautiful!

I was swept up into this book and it was so worth it. It's a devastating and sad story, but also a wonderful story about love and friendship.
I just read this book in one sitting and now I'm sad.

Oof this book was so heartbreaking! Even though it was pretty short it really packed an emotional punch. It delved into a lot of important topics like racism and police brutality. It also talked about what it was/is like to be in an interracial relationship, which is something I haven’t read about before. The writing was really beautiful, I’m definitely picking up more of Jacqueline Woodson’s books!

The reason I read this book is because it's the first selection of Life's Library Book Club created by John Green - I'm enjoying discussing the book on Discord with people from all over the world. I'm so glad that this book was chosen - it is 20 years old and feels as relevant as it could have been written in 2018. It is such a great novel about young love, racism, judgmental people, loneliness, and more. I wasn't eager to read this book since I don't usually read YA but I'm so glad I did, it made me feel so much. It caused me to cry real tears when I finished it on the plane so I'm glad no one was sitting right next to me. I highly recommend to anyone for a short thought provoking read.

This was a beautiful and heartbreaking story and one that is still relevant to this day even if it was written over 20 years ago.
It took me a while to get into it, but the last half of this book or so really pulled me in. That ending was so abrupt and I really wasn't expecting it. But this was such an important story.
