It was… fine? I wanted to read some horror / thriller books and looked up a big list and this was on it. It really wasn’t “scary” necessarily, but maybe that’s on me because a woman being stalked by a man is just like normal everyday stuff LMAO.
That’s not the whole story, but I think maybe I was hoping for something a bit more “keep you up at night” and was led astray by this being on a scary book list. The characters were fine; the main character was a little annoying but she starts to make a little more sense at the end. There were a couple good reveals for sure but overall just kinda walked away feeling “meh.”

The premise of I NEED YOU TO READ THIS is simple but clever: when a renowned advice columnist is murdered, who better than her replacement to investigate her murder? Bonus points when her replacement is a young woman with imposter syndrome and a lot of skeletons in the closet, metaphorically speaking at least. The book ultimately felt too chaotic to really follow or keep my attention. Sometimes, a thriller is just trying to do too much - and I confess that I tend to subscribe to the rules of fair play from the golden era of detective fiction. (I’m an old school girl at heart.) I know that there are readers who an unanticipated twist and I think that in many ways, this is the perfect read for them. For me, it was just a little bit too much. That being said, the premise is brilliant and this is a good second novel by this author. Thank you to Atria and NetGalley for the advance copy. All opinions are entirely my own.

I found the story interesting and engaging, and I loved the newspaper setting and advice columnist angle. The ending felt a bit gimmicky... Maybe a little bit of a cheat. But it was a good yarn.
I wish I had read the print version as I found the audiobook narrator's affect distracting.
All in all, this was fun but forgettable.

I did enjoy this book, but I do think the supporting characters needed a little work. I did not see the twist coming, but once it came the book essentially ended. It’s a fun fast read though, and the main character needed to make some less questionable choices.
