When I heard that "The Saga of Larten Crepsley" was coming out I was excited because I really enjoyed reading "The Saga of Darren Shan". This is the prequel to Darren Shan as it is about Darren's master Larten Crepsley. It follows his beginnings of becoming a vampire and the life he led. We come across many familiar characters from the first series, and even though this one is set many years before the first series we all know vampires live for a long time so it wasn't surprising to see names I knew. It took me a few chapters before I got into it but once I was in the right mood I tore through it at a fast pace. I'm really looking forward to the next one to see which path or "DEStiny" Larten & I are taken on.

I probably would have enjoyed this more if I have read any of the other Cirque du Freak books first. If you read it first, as I did, it's entertaining enough, but kind of lacks something. I assume if I'd read the other books first I would already know some of these characters and care more about their beginnings. The book just started to get interesting in the last chapter... pretty disappointing.

so interesting to view it here, seeing how Larten became a vampire. I really enjoyed it, i need to read the others, im a fan of Darren shans books anyway :D

This book is very Darren Shan. I have always loved his writing, the horror mixed with life lessons. It doesn't really feel like a prequel- just another book in this world of Vampires vs. Vampeneze. It's written on the same level that the Cirque Du Freak series was, and not on the Demonata level- which is significantly darker. all around a good book and a good way to start a new Daren Shan series.

Another good series starting by one of my favorite authors. Read his other series first before you read this series.

I absolutely love Darren Shan and I have read all of his books. I did not realize that he had made this series until I was looking for something to read. I had to get it right away to read, so I grabbed it from the library and finished it that day. This is another great book added to Darren Shan's collection. If you like Cirque du Freak or the Demonata Series then you will love this.

Amazing first book of the larten crepsley story, it good to find out how his story started, you meet some interesting people as the story unfolds, but doesn't give to much away and makes you want to read the rest of books in the series
