Danse Macabre

Stephen King

3.57 AVERAGE

Uncle Stephen explains what makes horror tick. So to speak. With extensive reference to a catalogue of movies, novels and TV shows you may never have heard of, or may be an expert on.

Read for LIT. GENRE II Horror, Mystery, & Suspense.

I loved this more analytic (but still humorous, friendly, & sassy) side of King. It was interesting to see his views on the mechanics and purposes of the horror genre, and I'll definitely carry a dog-eared copy of this along with me into grad school. At times, the book dragged; I found myself skimming both for that reason and to avoid spoilers to books/films he recommended. I also felt the TV section was a bit outdated (but hey, this was written in 1980).

An enjoyable ride through the landscape of the horror genre from 1950 to 1980.
