Some of the material is a bit dated; but still a good read
informative slow-paced

This was certainly an interesting look at the horror genre. I learned a lot and it made me curious to check out some of the classics mentioned in the pages. There were times where the material got a little dense, but considering the length of the book and the fact that there was quite a bit I was not familiar with going in, I'd say that was inevitable. King is a brilliant mind and an enchanting story teller, even when writing non-fiction.

A great overview of the horror genre from 1950-1980. Well written and interesting, if in great need of updating. Lots of interesting personal stories from King, and some insightful commentary about several "classic" horror films, tv shows, and books. (And some "not-so-classics," too.)

I really liked it, but wish King would write a followup.
