I was just reorganising my bookshelf and was going through my annotations in this book. God I love it so much...I haven't read any book that gives me feels this one gives. It's amazing I love it, I love it, I love it!
Actual rating 3.75/5.
This was an interesting read connecting mythology with real world. As someone who grew up watching and hearing Hindu mythological stories, I found it difficult to relate to certain parts in story.

The story itself is super-interesting and prompted me to look up the historical details and context the book was based on. The writing, however, was pretty atrocious with the author using modern slang for a really ancient time period. Characters are caricatures and the plot is like one of those soap operas complete with cliff-hangers. I wonder how Hindus feel about this portrayal of a beloved God figure, reminds me of what Christopher Moore did with Jesus in Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. The humor is equally juvenile.

Entertaining and nice to hear a spin on the age-old Indian mythology. An easy and fun read, but sometimes a bit too repetitive/explanatory. Still... looking forward to books 2 and 3. Agree wholeheartedly with Crooked's review but probably enjoyed it a bit more.
P.S. I have a copy from India with pages 284-317 missing and then pages 317-330 repeated twice. Anyone else have that issue?

Poor writing
Simplistic writing which feels as if it were written by a 12 year old who was asked to write a script for a Bollywood movie. I really wanted to like the story but the writing style killed my interest in it.
Did not produce a high enough return on my investment of time, especially given my unending 'to-read' list.
