Bear Head

Great book, again. Clever, nicely plotted, humorous. I love Tchaikovsky, incredibly inventive, fairly prolific, keeps getting better. I liked that there wasn't a million characters in this one, I usually have to make a character list. I listened to the audio book, which was brilliantly narrated by an ensemble cast. You are a good dog.

Bear Head is defined by vivid characters with compelling voices and some incredible stand-out moments amongst an otherwise slow book. For reasons that become obvious after only two chapters in, this is a *very* introspective book. We spend a lot of time in people's head, and frankly there is a *lot* going on there, more than just thoughts or feelings, but Hierarchies, Collars, and a whole field of morally questionable science.

I should also mention that there is a loud-mouthed, sociopathic billionaire pan-handling his way into politics which I suppose many will take to be a Trump-analogue, but if recent events with Elon Musk have shown us anything, it's that self-absorbed buffoons who've conned or inherited their way to positions of power are a dime a dozen. In that manner, I find Bear Head's sociopolitical message quite spot-on and more than capable of standing the test of time.

Bear Head is not as an exhilarating read as some of Tchaikovsky's other works, but nevertheless, I'm fully bought into the world and characters he's built and I would love to see more in this universe.

I realised this is the second book in the series but I still enjoyed it and the concepts are cool with augmented humans (based off animals) a neat switch.

A dark, gritty, and striking tale—all the more disturbing because of how closely much of it relates to our present times. I highly recommend reading both the Dogs of War books, even if you haven't gotten along with Tchaikovsky's other material. His other SF books take a much grander perspective, but it works very well when he brings it down to the more personal level like he has in this series, and I hope there will be more to come.

Good writing and an interesting plot. The type of book that aspires to be a 4. I really liked the idea of metagaming human interaction, but other than that none of the concepts really grabbed my attention. Enjoyable but mostly unremarkable.
