Let me address the bear in the room first: Was I aware that this is a sequel to [b:Dogs of War|35827220|Dogs of War (Dogs of War, #1)|Adrian Tchaikovsky|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1501011224l/35827220._SY75_.jpg|57331336]? No. Have I read [b:Dogs of War|35827220|Dogs of War (Dogs of War, #1)|Adrian Tchaikovsky|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1501011224l/35827220._SY75_.jpg|57331336]? No again. Did that diminish my understanding and enjoyment of this book? Surprisingly, also no. Honestly, I am just as confused by that lack of confusion as you probably are, because I don't think I missed anything here. The oly explanations for that are either that I actually did, but am just too dense to realize it, or that I'm just that attuned to Tchaikovsky's writing to instantly understand what he wants to say, even while missing a whole book's worth of context.

Because this is a typical Tchaikovsky, particularly concerning the writing. The amount of bear-related puns (seriously, Part IV is called Bear Witness) is almost unbearably hilarious. Wait...

He also isn't distracted by pesky human interaction, which is precisely what I needed right now. But, uncharacteristically, there are a few holes in this plot, which is why this book doesn't get the customary five stars. Granted, those holes could be filled by [b:Dogs of War|35827220|Dogs of War (Dogs of War, #1)|Adrian Tchaikovsky|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1501011224l/35827220._SY75_.jpg|57331336] and I would certainly like to verify that, but I have again run into supply issues, BECAUSE VIENNESE BOOKSTORES DO NOT STOCK ENOUGH TCHAIKOVSKY.
