Volume 17 takes us to the end of the semifinals game, and to the beginning of the finals. I have found that in this series that there is really no winning as a reader - what I mean by this is you can’t help but love all the teams and don’t want anyone to lose. Saying that, someone has to. Overall, and I know I REALLY sound like a broken record, but a 5/5 stars for this volume, to match the entire series. Can’t wait to keep reading!

Oh my gods!!! Those last few points after Suga subs in for Tsuki? That was truly the most engaging, exciting, thrilling part of this series. All those excellent plays from Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Kyotani, Sugawara, Kageyama and Hinata???? I was honestly jumping off my seat, totally amped up. Aoba Johsai deserve so much more, I love them, and even the last bonus story added to my enjoyment of their arc. We move to the finals, facing Shiratorizawa and Ushijima Wakatoshi. Shiratorizawa is all about, in a word, power, and Ushijima is the most powerful, their one true weapon, hitting the mark with excellent precision. He's left handed and comes in from the right, as opposed to the other aces like Asahi and Iwaizumi who come in from the left, being right-handed. Karasuno are at a disadvantage from the get-go because they don't have much experience against left-handed spikers and it's hard to receive them especially when they are so powerful. The volume ends with Karasuno down 9 points 8-17, and finally Nishinoya is able to receive Ushijima's serve. I'm going to jump right into the next volume.

Furadate packed a lot in this one! It definitely wasn't as tense as the last volume, but a lot of good stuff here.

The boys pull off the win. Hinata comes up with a huge block, and despite an incredible cross-court set from Oikawa, a killer dig from Tanaka seals the deal. Blue Castle is super emotional after the match, and they all pick up Iwaizumi, who is blaming himself.

There's some good backstory, showing Daichi, Sugawara and Asahi in their rookie year, having to deal with a team that didn't live up to expectations. But that's all in the past, because now Karasuno has a chance to go to Nationals... if they can beat Shiratorizawa.

The first set starts and Shiratorizawa dominates, jumping out to a huge lead. Karasuno has trouble handling Ushijima's powerful hits. The volume ends on a positive note, with Nishinoya making good on his promise to handle his spike on his third hit, giving his team a chance to rally!

Can't wait to see how this match plays out!

  1. Can’t believe they animated the series to do justice to this match. I think music was a biggie there
  2. WAIT Daichi walked so that Hinata could run???? (This will make sense after the ball boy arc)
  3. Kinda getting breathless for the Tsukki arc coming up easily one of the best plots with the shittiest fricking annoying motherfucking opponent OF COURSE THIS WAS DESIGNED FOR TSUKKI AND TSUKKI ALONE
  4. We label kageyama as national level talent cause every time they’re idle, or lining up to have jersey numbers recorded, he moves like a volleyball player warming up and everyone else is either a person who plays volleyball or an athlete in general. ESP Hinata. Man is boinking while Kageyama is loosening his hips and ankles. His casual posture is so pro coded.
  5. Nishinoya’s successful receive (where we end this volume) is actually so damn hard. Look at it, it’s like he received it in the splits!!!!
  6. Bonus story: Wow the movie corrected the crime that was leaving THIS bonus story out of the anime. Iwa rocks.
