I was absolutely terrified by World War Z, so was eager to pick this up and scare myself shitless once more. Unfortunately, while the first 2/3 of the book had me paranoid and scouting for places of refuge from the bus window, the last section of this book was a total let down.
I was utterly bored by the random pseudo oral history that Max Brooks had thrown in, and I found myself actually falling asleep. The terrible last part of this book is almost unredeemable by the actual survival guide section, and I'm just so disappointed by a book that had so much potential. I'll recommend it to others in the future, but I'll advise them against the last section.
But when this book was good, it was really fucking great. Brooks makes the idea of a zombie apocalypse so real and terrifying, and I found myself forming mental plans on where I would go in the event of an outbreak of the living dead. I did, however, get frustrated at how often Brooks would recommend a weapon/terrain/vehicle and then go on to provide 123840293840 reasons why it is a terrible weapon/terrain/vehicle.
Jesus Christ, just say that it's a bad weapon/terrain/vehicle and let's move on.

I regret ever having come across this book. Perhaps it's because I'm not anywhere near interested in zombies, apart from maybe an occasional joke or skit related to it. I wasted quite a lot of time trying to get myself to read this book, but my mind just wouldn't budge. I ended up skipping the last 100 or so pages, more so because of its inanity, and less so because it felt so pointless.
I really don't want to give anything a scathing review; and I don't really regret having read this book, because now I know that zombies are really not my thing. Read this book only if you're a die-hard fan of zombies, or if you're insanely psychotic and paranoid about apocalypses and ways to survive them.

Great read for zombie fans but at times it felt distinctly like reading a list and found myself skipping entire pages.

It was certainly different, but not really my cup of tea. I was initially lured to read it because of the survival aspect and guidebook-like style of writing, but in the end, it wasn’t really too interesting.
