I just wasn’t in the mood for a collection of essays. It seemed like a good read but one that I would rather read when I own myself rather than a borrowed library book that I can’t tab, highlight and refer back to.
It was not sophisticated. I don’t love reading books about 2020 and COVID-19 as it feels too relevant and recent. Also I’m just not in the mood and while phoebe robinson seems lovely, it’s not the kind of night read I would like.

I’ve been wanting to read one of Phoebe Robinson’s books, but I never got around to it. Finally, this book was thrown out as an option in my book club and we excitedly embarked.
The journey was rough. After starting this book in March and intermittently picking it up, putting it off, and skimming pages, I FINALLY finished. This was a tough book to read. It’s extremely wordy and has SO MANY tangents. However, I feel like i could easily read it in Phoebe’s voice. I’ve had this inkling for a while, but this book solidified the idea for me:
Celeb books (nonfiction obvs) are best listened to, especially when narrated by the celebrity themselves. This has rung true for me over and over again, and now it’s law.
I think if I started this book on audiobook, I would’ve finished faster, enjoyed it more, and probably rated it higher. But I didn’t so my sordid beginning with the book has likely impacted my rating.
Phoebe just keeps getting better. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You will laugh, you will learn, and then you will laugh some more. She's so relatable but also a brilliant mind kind enough to share her knowledge and observations. Just can't get enough of her!
