I flew through Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes by Phoebe Robinson and loved every minute. I’m a fan of the author and think she is comedy genius, so a book written by her and published by the imprint she founded is an auto-read for me. What tipped this into the loved category was the current societal topics with statistics and relevant facts – I big puffy heart love statistics in cultural essays. This book is full of perspective with her top tier humor woven in.

So let’s talk about the topics covered in these essays – they’re all excellent choices. Pop culture, parental influence, multi-culture and multi-racial dating, founding and leading a company, intentionally choosing a child-free life, the Black Lives Matter movement, performative white allyship, cultural appropriation, 4C hair, and of course… that precious barrier between outside germs and your home. Throughout each essay Black womanhood is centered, and the author shares her perspective and experiences.

The book is insightful, funny, relevant, and witty read. I bounced between the hardcover and audiobook, and both were great. It’s always fun to hear the author read a non-fiction book.
