Dr. Uché Blackstock and her twin sister grew up knowing they would become physicians. Their mother, a prominent physician and community leader, instilled in them from a young age the belief that they could accomplish anything.

In her memoir, Dr. Blackstock shares her journey from childhood to becoming a healthcare professional, while slowly uncovering the pervasive racism within the medical field. Blending research with personal experiences, she provides a powerful and eye-opening perspective on systemic inequities in healthcare.

I haven’t read many books that focus on the pandemic, especially from the perspective of a physician who lived through it firsthand. Dr. Blackstock's account of the pandemic’s impact on her, her patients, and the health disparities it exposed makes this memoir even more compelling.

If you're a healthcare professional, I highly recommend this book.

Great memoir of a black doctor and her journey in the medical field. Highlights the racial disparity in treatment that the patients receive and the demographic of black doctors.
