Such a great (although frustrating) book about the impact of systemic racism in medicine….and how little major academic institutions are doing to combat it.

Wow, every healthcare worker should read this book. It was absolutely career changing. I have already paraphrased portions of this text in my workplace to coworkers because it has absolutely changed my outlook every time I was through the hospitals doors. Dr. Blackstock’s memoir was absolutely life changing.

This book is a MUST read. It's one of those topics where you're like OF COURSE - I know this to be true. But to see how pervasive the issue is, is always still a shock to me (don't mind me with my clown make up on over here). I would just have thought there would be more progress in moving towards racial and social equality in medicine. But to hear that the disparities aren't even TAUGHT in the US's most prestigious medical schools... it's a farce. How can we continue to think that America is SO GREAT, when there is NOTHING that proves this to be so? And why do we still have to cater to white Americans who don't truly want to reckon with our country's past? A truly enlightening read, depressing as it is.
