Dr. Blackstock's writing of her personal journey navigating through childhood, medical school, and after was moving. I find that oftentimes references to the unrest of 2020 brings me to tears and this instance was no difference. Blackstock repeatedly said "time will tell" in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and we've come to the point where time has passed and the health care system and protections are reverting in almost every way.

Necessary text.

I love how she weaves her own experiences with studies about racism and its impact on people of color. As an acupuncture student, this has opened my eyes into some of the inherent biases in our training and encouraged me to ask deeper questions about assumptions/biases presented as facts.

A beautifully written memoir that highlights inequities in healthcare and medical education that white people do not experience and may not have fully recognized before. This is a must read for any healthcare worker.
