my library copy inhibited me from the the copious underlining this book called for - alas, no choice but to buy the mcnally edition!

Advertised as a view into 1920’s NYC and considered by some a classic. Turns out to be a very depressing depiction of young adult relationships, and of women in particular — so I hope it is a wildly inaccurate representation. Do not recommend as a casual read.

Written in the 1920’s then reissued. I enjoyed it, the story of a divorced woman in the Jazz Age in New York City. It was a bestseller when it was first released, and I understand why. The main character is a woman of her times, practical but in search of enjoyment.

Absolutely adored this. Heartbreaking and laugh out loud funny and well observed. A glimpse into the past, present, and future; all topped off with a good highball or two (or three) (or four). The soundtrack to this book might just be New Rules by Dua Lipa. 10/10. Will read again.

Beautiful moments of intense relatability. This book had me wanting more for days, and I would have read it all in one sitting but I wanted to savour it. Genuinely timeless.
