Why did I leave this languishing on my Kindle? A killer virus, the rise of magick, horror, chaos and humanity at its worse, hope, love, loyalty, friendship, family both born and found….this story has it all!

I’ve never read any books by Nora Roberts before but that’s going to change pretty quick because her writing style is just so easy to read. For a start I NEED to get the next two books in this trilogy!

I was not expecting a story to blow my mind, but I did want an entertaining story. I finished the book and it fit the bill, but not sure I would read the second in the series. It was the “abilities” aspect on the story that really bummed me out. I kept repeating to myself, “Just go with it. Do not over think.”

Loved this book! Reminded me of Stephen King's ,"The Stand".

So I really enjoyed this and I think if you like Nora Roberts books, you’ll enjoy it too. The plot was interesting and I was on the edge of my seat the majority of the time. I fell for the characters easily and was completely invested in their lives and their stories.

I love how Nora Roberts places a strong emphasis on light vs. dark and how light has the power to overcome the darkness. She’s so good at writing sadness into the plot without it being overwhelming. My absolute favorite part of the story was that the women were strong before all the devastation and not just because of it.

Nora Roberts also does a great job of building a world where magical, non-magical, and people of faith are all capable of coexisting together, without judgement except for the few jerks and their were bad people in all the groups. My only issue was, I knew “it” was coming and I still wasn’t ready for it. I also didn’t like how a certain relationship seemed to move so quickly(I wasn’t ready, lol). I know the dialogue is a bit cheesy and the plot can at times be slightly over dramatic, but I absolutely love it and I can’t wait, to continue the series, later this year.

With any apocalypse story you’re gonna get devastating lost and horrific goings on, all of which is sure to make or break a person in their desperate attempt to live another day. Roberts here has spread her writing wings by encompassing the classic struggle of good vs evil as she incorporates fantasy and supernatural elements to survival of the fittest, plus a prophecy to boot.

My interest is caught, but this being the first book in a planned trilogy, there’s definitely a lot going on here with multiple threads and characters, and many unknowns were left dangling. Luckily with 2 books to go, I look forward to what will hopefully be a satisfying payoff!

I enjoyed this book. I do like a post-apocalyptic story and stories about magic. This has both. It is a fast moving story, perhaps a bit derivative in places but nothing to detract the reader too much. Ends on a promise of the next book which I would be interested in reading. Worth a read.
