Really fun read. The stories about each plant/animal were really cute. Towards the end it got a bit repetitive, but overall I enjoyed this read.

World of Wonders combines two of my favorite things: memoirs and nature. This is a book by author Aimee Nezhukumatathil where she writes little essays about animals, flowers, fruits or anything else in nature she finds fascinating, and relates the characteristics/behaviors of these things to her own life. The essays are so beautifully written. I had never heard of Aimee N. before, but this book made me fall in love with her writing and I’ll be checking out her other works asap. This book brings up important topics such as racism/prejudice that the author and her parents had experienced growing up. Also, climate change where she explains that we are all connected. When one thing goes, another thing will be effected and it becomes a domino effect. I found myself laughing and crying whilst reading this and the way she writes about her childhood, makes me feel very nostalgic about my own childhood memories. A very quick and fascinating read. I learned so many facts from each essay and learned about species I didn’t even know about. If you are a lover of nature and animals, you need to check this out.

This is half vignettes on nature and half memoir. Each vignette explores an animal, plant, or natural phenomena and then relates it to the author's life. It's very lyrical and never forced, going from squid to schoolyard is pretty seamless. I think anyone who has ever stood in awe of nature or ever felt other/like an outsider (and who doesn't fall in these categories?) will enjoy this.
