I'm gagged. A slow start to get going but once it did I was invested. And once that man got going, my feet kept kicking. The last line... chef's kiss

Set in the 1880s, Amelia Peabody is the the antithesis of the Victorian woman. She is feisty and serves as a great role model for girls today. I can not wait to get my hands on the next in the series! It's mystery meets adventure meets romance. The author did a marvelous job transporting the reader to British-ruled Egypt.

Delightful. I've read/reread/re-listened to the entire series multiple times. The older I get, the harder it is to overlook the racist and classist language, but if I look at the book in the context of it's historical period, it's not out of line so I allow myself to enjoy the book wholeheartedly.

Crocodile on the Sandbank is a mystery and historical fiction novel that follows the story of Amelia Peabody, unmarried at 29, with passion for ancient Egypt decided to spend her Inheritance by travelling to Egypt. She then met Evelyn, granddaughter of a duke and was disinherited after running away with her lover but was also left by him after knowing that she doesn't have any money left to spend. Together they met the archeologists brothers who discovered mummy tomb in Egypt. They were stuck with the mystery behind the mummy who appear and disappear. Will they be able to find out the truth behind the mystery of the mummy?

It was fun, short, and easy to read book. Loved the audio, it was a satisfying mystery with the narrator doing an excellent job in bringing the story to life. Amelia Peabody is an interesting and intelligent character. 4/5

This was a fun story!

I liked Amelia a lot. She didn't like taking crap from anyone and she was quick to tell people to stop being idiots. She was very practical but I liked that she also grew to truly care for Evelyn and wanted to protect her. Her interactions with Emerson were hilarious and honestly, I both liked that it took her so long to make her proposal and wish they'd both said something sooner. Granted, if they had, then certain other events wouldn't have happened, at least not in the way they did, so this slower burn worked out quite well.

Evelyn was entertaining and I liked that while she seemed to lean a little more towards a "girly girl" type character, she also didn't seem to mind getting dirty with the excavations. I liked that she was willing to help out with the artworks and getting sketches of the things they found. I did roll my eyes at her reasoning on things because even for the time, she either a)could have just not told Walter or b)She should have declared her intention to never marry from the moment he showed her interest.

I didn't trust Lucas from the beginning and I will admit to laughing a little more than I probably should have when Emerson throttled him. His reasons for going after the inheritance made sense but I would have liked a little more on the way he managed to do things. There was some explanation from Alberto's monologue but I just wanted a little more on the how/whys of things.

Overall, decent intro to this series and I kind of want to check the rest of the books out at some point.

A fun and light adventure story. Great setting. The first in the Amelia Peabody series. I shall be reading the next in the series. Cosy and historical, laugh out loud at times!

Just the right mixture of romance, humor, and mystery! Be advised— this is a mystery but not a murder mystery.
