I literally needed to look at the themes of her other book to save myself from giving this a lower rating because TBH any part going into detail about her husband were the worst parts of the book. However, her focus on learning to love herself and accept her past experiences (and boy are they heavy) without keeling over to the unsolicited advice that the 'religious people' were throwing at her made me relate and look up to her strength.

love warrior had things i needed, some recently, some for a long time coming. if it had a job to do, i think the book accomplished that, at least partway. i say 'if' because this book is a memoir after all - it's meant to be a genuine sharing of life, so i'll let the somewhat pointed(?) message slide.

it was solid, overall, earning my respect and compelling separate crying sessions out of me, which is making me forgive the style/pacing that slightly wobbled around in the second half.

There is no doubt that Glennon Doyle is an outstanding memoirist. What feels like raw honesty is combined with really good writing and Doyle's own delivery, creating a really compelling experience. Hers is more than the wisdom of Instagram quotes and easy soundbites: it's messy, flawed, gentle and deeply compassionate. I'll probably read Untamed as well, because I'm really interested in her coming-out story, right in the wake of writing this books about supposedly saving her marriage to her first husband.
