Another unpopular opinion but incredibly overrated. I don’t think a book that’s only 200 pages should only get interesting in the last 40 odd.

Okay but unremarkable. I truly don't get the hype. I liked the latter half of the book a lot more than the first half, but really, I barely cared about what the author was describing. I felt like I had to sieve through a lot of descriptions to obtain information I valued or cared about. After every sentence, I had to assess whether to keep that information because it would be relevant later in the book, or to ignore it and take the risk of missing out on something.

Yoh. It really is a novel from 1925.

Read The Great Gatsby like 3 different times over the past month (once by myself, then two times with my classes of juniors), and honestly not even slightly mad about it. This book was amazing, beautiful, and well crafted in more ways than one. There are so many layers to the characters, themes, symbols, etc.

I absolutely LOVE teaching The Great Gatsby. I know I probably was coming off as that geeky english teacher who gets way too excited about a book, but it was so fun to teach this book! I loved watching the juniors get excited about the book too. I know most high schoolers don’t read the books they are assigned or care to read them, but it felt different with The Great Gatsby. Or maybe that’s my personal bias and love for this book. I hope I can teach this book every year in my career.
