Once in a rare while I re-read a book. I don't think I'd read this since school so it's almost like I'd never read it. I enjoyed the book, as ever, while loathing pretty much everyone in it - even Nick. Okay I don't loathe Nick but I don't really like him either.

I read this in school and was captivated by the story. I loved the story and how it was realistic regarding how there wasn't a "happy ending" that most would expect in a romance. And although it was a tragedy, Daisy wasn't someone you could feel much sympathy for since she practically ran away. I liked the author's choice to show it from Nick's perspective instead of Gatsby's. Nick ended up being my favorite character because he was the most sensible and relatable in how he wanted to have fun with the rich but saw their faulted morals so clearly and stayed on edge the whole book. This book is one of my favorite classics and has convinced me to read more. It also instilled in me an obsession with the 1920's. I recommend!

Best quotes -

"And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.”

“In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. "Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.”
