I read this book fast. It was fairly gripping, and I wanted the mystery to unravel and reveal the truth. That being said, it also frustrated me. Nearly all the characters, save for Tripp and Astrid, behaved in ways that drove me crazy; I hated Virgil's family, and the way that he chose to continue interacting with Jarrett and Finn despite everything was mind boggling. If I were Tripp or Astrid I wouldn't have continued putting up with that.

The plot, too, felt pretty bloated and unnecessary, and I'm someone who typically enjoys a book with not a whole lot going on. I didn't love the school play plot, but whatever. I wish there was more of the horror aspect,
we didn't get any sort of transformation from Virgil until the very end
. The use of werewolves as a metaphor in the text was definitely interesting, but didn't fully hit the mark for me. It's just not what I was looking for/expecting. Oh well. Still a decent read that kept me entertained during a long day at work. I'll keep searching for my perfect gay werewolf novel.

THIS BOOK. This book is literally so good omg it ripped my heart out
The plot is so interesting and captivating— it keeps you always guessing and not fully trusting anyone enough. I genuinely had so much fun reading and coming up with silly plot twists as I attempted to guess at who the monster was (and I actually guessed right lol). I liked the way the characters are written and given depth. I do remember thinking that Virgil was a little passive at times, but it didn’t happen enough for me to lose enjoyment while reading— I think it helped that his behavior could have been due to the trauma he deals with throughout the book (and speaking of which, I liked the discussion this book had about trauma and the way victims are treated). I believe this is one of the first books I’ve read in the horror genre, and I am super interested in reading more books like this! Easy 5 stars.
