This is written so well - if the size and perceived "density" is putting you off reading this book, don't let it, it's surprisingly easy to read. Honestly, it's a real testament to judicious editing, because I think this could have easily been bulked out to a trilogy, and yet everything in this single (admittedly large) book is perfectly fleshed out.

By it's nature, this book obviously spends a lot of time devoted to the topic of colonialism, but personally I found it so expertly and inextri ably woven through the plot that it never felt like I was just being lectured at, which I can struggle with with some more political books.

The characters were fantastic and all had just so much depth to them and their motivations.
