this is my first introduction to miss rebecca kuang (thank you Noe) and from now on i will be reading everything that she writes. i think she is brilliant and that shows in her writing. the historical context is so well researched and the critics of colonialism, sexism and racism of the time are written with intention but blend perfectly into the story. i devoured this book and now i don’t know what to do with my life.

This book, more than any non-fiction book I've read on the subject, has shown me what it really means to fight back against oppressive systems, how people really act in those situations, and what truly drives people on all sides. This is one of those books that stays with you and alters the way you see the world.
