Very entertaining and well-executed historical fiction. With an incredibly thorough author's note explaining which bits are made up and sources for the factual bits, which I always appreciate. I will likely be reading all of Lawhon's backlist I can get my hands on.

I struggle to rate this book because I went in expecting thriller but it was historical fiction with a tad mystery. Even though it did differ from mg expectations, I wouldn't deter someone from reading it, it was a good story and an enjoyable read.
