Hank is a damaged, hot character, who is going to therapy to deal with his negative self talk. In short, I loved him. I also would read stories about the other couples hinted at here. A selkie and vampire. A vampire and another mythical creature.

Eliza MacArthur's debut is a warm hug of a book. The characters feel like real, adult people with real, adult problems (and a splash of magic thrown in). It's not often that I invest in characters, especially male main characters, as quickly and as deeply as I did in Hank. Soft Flannel Hank is full of real, raw emotion... and also some incredibly hot sex. Don't snooze on that part -- MacArthur knows her way around a bedroom scene! This book is for you if you love character-driven romance with a hint of paranormal spice, if you want an exciting plot with a twist I didn't see coming, or if you just want to curl up under a book and escape to a misty day in the Pacific Northwest. Check out Hank and Esther -- you won't be sorry!

  • this was really sweet! a bunch of “up and down” but that’s how healing goes
  • it was pretty dang soft
  • stellar cast of secondary characters!

Hank is a sad sad man, who is no longer sure what to do with himself daily - he’s quit the police force, his daughter lives on the other side of the country, and lately Hank doesn’t have much to fill his days. Esther is a whirlwind witch, who drops into his life one day after spending months on the run. Will they be the answer to each other’s problems?

Soft Flannel Hank gets right to the action - we’re introduced to Hank and Esther individually, and by chapter 3…let’s just say this is definitely an open door romance. There is definitely some insta-lust that develops into genuine caring and connection. These two are such comforting characters who want the best and safety for one another.

And the side characters! There are some amazing side characters, some of whom are getting their own stories, and others who I hope at least get some kind of short side story adventure.

SFH is a good introduction into paranormal romance if you’ve never read it before and you’re looking for an access point. It features some standard paranormal aspects (witches, vampires, maybe some other creatures) without being too heavy on the magic and creature features. It’s a light touch to start the series. And it is a series! Eliza is still publishing serially on Patreon if once you finish Hank you can’t wait for the next story to be published.

Eliza knocked it out of the park with this debut novel!! Beautifully complex characters, trauma recovery, witty banter, STEAMY fun moments, and Peril--with a capital P! Hank and Esther both have enough baggage to bury your average person under, but nothing feels insurmountable when you've got the right person to help you unpack it. Watching Hank's stoicism unravel in the face of Esther's chaos was such a ride to tag along with.

Where do I start with how much I love the World's End cast of characters? Everyone feels lived in, rich with back stories we've only just scratched the surface of. I want to know everything about Magda; what's the history between Nat and Niamh; what happened between Callum and Jory; and what other supernatural beings are there hiding in the PNW that we haven't met yet?? I can't wait for the rest of this series. I love all the characters so much!!

I was told this is extra satisfying fan fic about Bella’s hunky dad from the twilight movies. Anddddd yes.  I’m excited for the next book in the set it will follow different characters.
