I was recommended this book by a friend, and she was kind enough to let me borrow her copy.
I blew through this lovely little book, and now I'm looking to get a copy for myself. The relationship between Helene, Frank, Nora, Maxine, and the rest of the staff at Marks and Co. was nothing earth shattering or life changing, but provided a look into friendships formed over a love for literature and bolstered by 20 years of communication, love, and kindness.
I can't say this book is the most complex or impactful thing I've ever read, but I can say with my full chest that it was a needed reminder about the beauty of friendship. It definitely made me want to sit down and write letters to all my friends.

The author of the book, Helene Hanff is an american writer with a passion for book, especially British classics. Thanks to this passion she starts a correspondence with a library in London that send her antique copy of books.
This correspondence soon became a friendship, especially with Frank Doel, the chief buyer of Marks and co.
I enjoyed the book for two mainly things, first because is very intimate and delicate, second because I discovered a London that I didn't know about.

A cozy collection of letters between a bossy American lady with specific tastes and and an English bookshop - mainly Frank - who finds her tastes reasonable and writes charming letters back about literature, his family, and England, that results in a casual but important years long friendship over time.

In the most simple terms: delightful. Tears, chuckles, and a love for Olde England were had by all.
WHAT KIND OF VULGAR PROTESTANT BIBLE IS THIS???
This is a lovely book, a quick and sweet read. I so enjoyed this and recommend it to all.

This was an absolutely delightful little book. I read the whole thing in about 2 hrs as it's only 97 pages of letters so it went quick, but it was charming and warm and hilariously funny! Any lover of books about books and/or friendship will devour this little beauty. 5 stars.
